St Agnes Catholic Primary School in Mount Gravatt, Brisbane celebrate their 2019 under 8’s day with year one, year two and preps joining in on a full day of under 8’s activities with their parents and siblings.
After assembly, we had 10 minutes to load all of the drums into the space and with the help of some wonderful teachers and parents we were set up in a huge circle in no time The workshop was based on our ‘Groovers In Guinea’ workshop. With large groups our workshops can vary in content. This always depends on group size, age brackets and the space allocation.
We had 180 students in three 50-60min sessions with each age group. The preps came bounding into the hall ready for action. Some were accompanied by parents, others by teachers. They were very excited to be the first group on the drums! The preps absolutely loved the big jump and we think they could of jumped all day had we of let them.
After a snack break the year ones came rolling in, their siblings were super keen to have a go on the drums and they also joined in on the percussion. This group was by far the highlight for our big muscle tester, facial expressions were not to be forgotten and they were the drumming stars for the day. Their call and response on the drums was fantastic and very focused. So many children playing in unison creates a huge powerful sound no matter the age bracket.
The year two’s shined in ‘Shake Your Shaker, Shake Your Body’. These children definitely had the grooviest moves on the day. The parents look to be enjoying the session as much as their children!
We had a great under 8’s day with St Agnes Catholic Primary students! Thanks for having us! We look forward to seeing you in Brisbane next year.
