Rhythm Culture vs The Weather Gods @ Saturplay

We were pretty sure there was going to be a storm the morning of September 26th. Why? Because It’s Saturplay, of course! If you want to see why Mother Nature is the boss of everything, just wait for the last Saturday of every month… when it rolls around, so do the clouds… and we sit and watch to see if we can take the drums down to Renae’s Pantry in Palmwoods for the afternoon – or not.

Lucky for us at Rhythm Culture, we’re big fans of Mother Nature and she repays our admiration. We’ve only had to cancel one Saturplay due to heavy storms and… you guessed it… she turned off the taps and got the sun back by 3pm. On other days, like the September Saturplay, the rain stopped in time for drummers, their friends and families to come and make music.

We love hearing that locals have been walking past with their dogs or doing some light gardening on their property nearby when they have heard the drums and that’s how they have “stumbled upon” Saturplay. They come in and usually stay for a while, enjoying the beautiful back garden where they can sit back and listen to the rhythm of the drums. We had quite a few listeners, readers and chai drinkers turn up last month and lots of kids having a blast in the garden, playing in the sand pit or having a try at the drums.

For the rest of the year, we will have to put Saturplay on hold as the silly season requires our drums to be everywhere…. but be sure to stay tuned for 2016 as we will have some exciting new community events unfold.

Thanks for a great year Saturplay friends and family! 🙂
