It’s been a non stop year of workshops, performances and of course classes for Rhythm Culture. The year has whisked by, that we can’t believe we are even writing this post! We should of created a final 2019 newsletter but we have decided that ‘should of’ is a swear word and you can only do what you can do. So for those of you that are on our mailing list, we apologise for our lack of personal communication this year. It’s impossible to keep up with it all and our newsletters have been neglected!
School Workshops 2019 Recap
The brighter side is that everything else has been blooming. Our school workshops this year have been filled with original, new and exciting choreography rhythms and breaks. Nathaniel and I have spent numerous hours making sure that we have been delivering something unique and really special that you wont find anywhere else. Working together, creating these new workshops has been an absolute joy and we have had so much fun with all of the schools that have had us on board this year.
Caloundra Music Festival
One highlight that we haven’t really posted about this year was our workshops at the Caloundra Music Festival. Creating these shows was so incredibly fun and we had such an amazing support team up on stage with us helping us deliver our rhythm creations. Thanks to all those that helped us out!
Drum & Dance Classes 2019
Classes have been pumping through the heat, the cold and we would like to say a huge thank you to our group of Foli kan performers and students to coming every week and being so dedicated. Lastnight we had our final class with pizza afterwards and they showered us with gifts (like real big gifts) and shared their appreciation on the year that has past. This is our Rhythm Culture family. We meet every week for the entire year (no holiday breaks for 2019!) and share our love for West African drum and dance. We also share cakes (everytime a birthday rolls past) and this year we performed at the Festuri festival, amongst a few other adventures together.
Camp Afro Foli 2019/2020
Camp Afro Foli came and went like a steam train!! Where did July go?! We were once again blessed this year with amazing artists for both drum and dance and the new venue worked an absolute treat. We also really enjoyed meeting new crew coming from all over the place. This is our extended drum and dance family. We are super excited about building Camp Afro Foli in the future, but for now we are needing to take 2020 off from the usual camp plans as we will be welcoming a new member at the end of March! Welcome dundunfola number #3!!
Thank You & Merry Christmas!
A huge thank you to all of the artists that contributed this year to Rhythm Culture workshops and performances this 2019. We look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year!! Merry Christmas everyone!!
