This Easter we visited Vacation Care with Jabiru Runcorn Heights State School for some drumming, singing and dancing.
This was a large school with lots of kids. We ran the incursions in the large hall where all of the Jabiru kids had set up for their school holiday activities.
Our highlight of the day was definitely the children and their helping hands at the end of the workshop. As we started to load all of the drums back into the lime green djembe machine, the children were determined to help. They carried the drums down the long path with their own hands. With bigger drums, they took one side each and worked as a team. These children were unstoppable. Every time we loaded the drums in, more drums were being carted out. The useless trolley got placed back into the van and we let the children take the lead.
It’s fascinating our helpful children want to be and how much joy they have in helping someone else out. Over the years for our vacation care incursions, we have learnt to encourage children when they want to be a part of packing down or setting up. The gift of appreciation is so simple yet so enormous for children. Children love to contribute and feel that they have been part of the creation.
We adore this in children, that’s why we do what we do and run vacation care incursions just for kids!
Thanks for having us Jabiru. We look forward to seeing you again!
