Today, we visited Sesame Lane Morayfield Kindergarten Room for the first time since last year. This series will last for three weeks and is a Drum Sing Dance program for the kindy kids.

Although last week was to be our first week for the series with flood interruptions we kicked off with the children waiting very patiently whilst watching all of the drums load in this morning. Patiently, they sat eating their morning tea with excited eyes waiting to get the go ahead to touch the drums.

The session started off with some singing and these children had very big excited voices. They had forgotten all about the drums and were giving the song everything they had. We clapped, sang, laughed and moved our body to a Guinean song and then explored the African percussion instruments. The children drummed on their djembes and danced solos in a drumming circle. The educators joined in which is always a treat for us.

These children were not surprised at all when we discussed how the drums were made. They guessed snake skin, tiger skin and monkey skin. It took a while to get back to Australian farm animals with all of the African animal excitement.

This kindergarten room were very happy to hear they get to do it all over again next week!
