Drumming at the Arts School Festival -Lutheran Ormeau Rivers District School – LORDS – Pimpama – South Brisbane
Drumming workshops take us all over South East Queensland and we recently visited the Lutheran Ormeau Rivers District School in Pimpama which is south of Brisbane.
The school were having an Arts festival and we ran 4 x 30 minute drumming workshops with 50 kids in each workshop.
We always love the energy of big groups and having all 50 kids in each group drumming the same rhythms together creates such a big sound and a wonderful feeling.
Since we only had 30mins with each group we based the workshop on our ‘Groovers In Guinea’ drum sing dance program.
They kids were really engaged and they were all so helpful from the very beginning, carrying all the drums into the classroom on our arrival and then carrying the drums back out again after the sessions were complete. Whilst we were loading back up, many of the kids from the previous sessions ran back over to get one last hit on the drums before they disappeared.
With the big groups it was definitely an absolute highlight, once we taught the break, to witness the children all stop at the same time and then start up their rhythms again. It is such a powerful energy to be apart of when you have everyone synchronising their rhythm patterns. We could do it all day… and we did!
