Last week we visited Tewantin C&K Kindy which is near Noosa on the Sunshine Coast. The Kindy had a beautiful space set up for us ready to go for our Drum Sing Dance program ‘Groovers in Guinea’

We ran two sessions, first with the younger kids and the second session with the older kids.

For the younger kids there were lots of helpers and educators as well joining in the workshop. We had a fun time with everyone and the kids got to play the shakers and they really enjoyed the dancing and the moving your body part of the workshop. The younger kids were really keen to have a go on the drums so we brought out a few drums and they shared them together in a circle.

The older group was aged 3 to 5 years old and we had a great time learning about the Gongoma, the calabash and lots of different aspects of West African culture. This group especially loved the big jump and we think we could have done the whole workshop just jumping and the children would of loved it! There was some super keen drummers in the older group and Margie one of the educators told me that even a week later they have still been talking about the drumming and how inspired the kids were from our visit. We love hearing this type of feedback and we love sharing drumming and dancing with all of these little people. They are so wonderful!

Thanks for having us Tewantin C&K!
