Drum and Dance Community

It has been a fantastic year of drumming and dancing with awesome people and super fun vibes! Camp Afro Foli was definitely our biggest event and the support we received from our students and the wider drum and dance community was incredible. A massive thank you to everyone who came and joined the tribe, and a special shout out to all our Foli Kan and Badenya Foli students for their support. They were not only incredible during camp, but every week they drum for the dance classes and bring such a family feel and community atmosphere. In fact all of the drummers and dancers that joined us in 2017 have really made this year memorable! What an awesome drum and dance community that we have here on the Sunshine Coast!!

A big part of building that community for us has been running our classes every week, non stop without any breaks during school holidays!! (Holidays from drumming and dancing? What a crazy idea….holidays are for drum and dance intensives!) We added another night, extending both the drum and dance classes. It has been such a pleasure this year to offer regular Dundun Drumming and Dundun Dancing. We love playing dundun as much as we love playing djembe and dancing and it feels so good to be able to share them all with everyone!

Speaking of drum and dance holidays, this year saw Bec take a trip to California in August to attend Camp Fareta. Ten days of dancing with renowned teachers from all around the world. Split feet, strapped up ankles, lots of laughs and good friends made… not to mention amazing choreography and new dance moves to bring back to Australia and share with you all! Shout out to Pascale for teaching those extra dance classes this year to help make this happen! Yay!
