Community Dance for Community Events

Community dance classes have been bringing joy and fitness to women on the Sunshine Coast, made possible by the Sunshine Coast Multicultural Network as part of their Harmony Day celebrations and the Sunshine Coast Council as part of the Get Out Get Active Program. We are so grateful to these organisations for bringing dance to women on the coast with loads of people signing up for the free classes.

Community Dance for Get Out Get Active

Get Out Get Active was a great initiative created by the Queensland Government for which the Sunshine Coast Council received funding.  Just for women, and with health and fitness in mind, free workshops were offered in many different activities and dance styles. We were so happy to be apart of the program and know all the benefits of dance. You get hot and sweaty and always walk out of the class with a huge smile on your face. We had lots of positive feedback from the community with people commenting on the mental as well as physical benefits. As Nathaniel’s sister Miriam, who runs a social dance studio in Melbourne called Pheonix Dance Studio loves to say ‘Dancing it’s cheaper than therapy and more fun than the gym”.

Thanks to everyone who came and enjoyed the African Dance classes at Millwell Community Centre in Maroochydore, we hope to do it again soon!

Community Dance for Harmony Day

The Sunshine Coast Multicultural Network asked us to create a piece for women to perform at this years Harmony Day event. Bec worked with a group of women over a number of weeks developing a piece of choreography to perform at Alexander Headlands. We used dance moves from both the Djole and Macru dances to a beautiful song by Habib Koite called Kunfe. We all had so much fun and the energy that these women gave to the group was so special. There is nothing more powerful than a group of women getting together, laughing, dancing and looking as colourful as this!
