Welcome Tani Du Toit

I grew up in South Africa so traditional African drumming and dancing has always been part of  my life. Like a soundtrack of sorts, people like Johnny Clegg, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Hugh Masekela was always playing in the background and kinda still is. My best memory of playing the djembe drum is in the Knysna forest at a raucous full moon party. I still remember how I almost lost a finger because I didn’t  take off a ring.  Now, when Nat asks new students to remove their jewellery, I smile at that wonderfully painful memory.

I am a writer first and everything-else-creative a close second.  I express what happens in my life with stories and poetry, photos or paint. My ‘job’ is with a newspaper company some hours of the week, and the others I record things for people who live their passion, like Nathaniel and Bec. I am Rhythm Culture’s writer, designer, social media updater, blogger, media liaison and “that girl with the camera”…!
